Houston, TX, March 21, 2022 — Sisters Network® Inc. (SNI), the largest and only national Black breast cancer survivor-run organization is pleased to welcome Sisters Network Inc. Montgomery, Alabama (SNMA) Affiliate chapter. The new affiliate chapter will help to educate, and increase breast cancer awareness in the black community, and provide support and sisterhood to black women battling breast cancer in Montgomery, AL., and surrounding areas.
For nearly three decades, Sisters Network has continued to amplify and expand its national voice and footprint as the national leader in the Black breast cancer movement while also providing support to black breast cancer survivors in local communities through its extensive national network of survivor-run affiliate chapters.
“Sisters Network® Inc., National office is proud launch our first affiliate chapter in the state of Alabama. We have a dynamic group of survivors in Montgomery, Alabama who are energized and ready to educate black women about the importance of breast health, breast cancer awareness and early detection and support survivors in Montgomery and the surrounding areas,” said Karen E. Jackson, Founder/CEO, Sisters Network Inc.
“What makes Sisters Network unique and special is our organization has boots on the ground through our dedicated survivor-run affiliate chapters enabling our national organization to directly connect, support and serve Black women in major cities /communities across the United States. As a 29-year four-time breast cancer survivor, I am proud for nearly 30 years, Sisters Network has continued to provide that much needed and very special sisterhood that survivors need right in their local communities as they navigate their breast cancer journey,” added Jackson.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among Black women. Black women under 35 are 2 times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer as compared to White and die at three times the rate.

“We are excited and proud to launch a Sisters Network Inc. Affiliate Chapter here in Montgomery, Alabama. As an African American woman, and a two-time breast cancer survivor, I was purpose-driven and felt obligated to help establish an organization for women of color,” said Lathesia S. McClenney, President, Sisters Network Montgomery Affiliate Chapter. “Statistics show that the survival rate of breast cancer has increased significantly over the last three decades; however, there is a persistent mortality gap between Black women and White women. Our mission is to address the underlying conditions associated with the mortality gap as it relates to African American women diagnosed with breast cancer. We plan to educate the community, address health care disparities, provide supportive services, and help women on their journey to fighting breast cancer,” added McClenney.
