Sisters Network® Inc., the nation’s largest African American breast cancer survivorship organization, and Embrace Society, a leading breast cancer patient navigation and survivorship organization in Ghana, have entered a formal alliance to improve breast health outcomes for Black women across the African diaspora.
The partnership marks SNI’s first formal international alliance, reflecting a shared understanding that many of the challenges facing Black women with breast cancer extend beyond national borders. Delayed diagnoses, barriers to quality treatment, and limited access to survivorship resources continue to affect women in both the United States and Ghana.
In the U.S., Black women face a 41 percent higher breast cancer mortality rate than white women despite a lower incidence rate, a gap driven by systemic inequities in screening, treatment access, and survivorship support. In Ghana, women disproportionately present at late stages of disease, facing survivorship resource gaps that mirror the challenges SNI has spent more than three decades working to dismantle.
“For more than 30 years, Sisters Network Inc. has stood as the anchor for Black women navigating breast cancer in America. This alliance is not an expansion of ambition, it is an expansion of responsibility. Our sisters in Ghana are fighting the same battle on different soil, and it is both an honor and an obligation to stand with them,” said Karen E. Over time, the partnership is expected to expand through leadership exchanges, co-branded programming, coordinated advocacy, joint grant opportunities, and participation in national and international health conferences. Both organizations hope the alliance will serve as a model for future collaborations between Black-led health organizations in the U.S. and communities across Africa.
