The overall incidence rate of breast cancer is 10% lower in African American women than white women.
African American women have a five year survival rate of 77% after diagnosis as compared to 90% for white women.

Sisters Network® Inc. will host, Stop the Silence® the 2nd National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Houston, TX. McGregor Park will be the site of the this historic annual event aimed at increasing awareness about breast cancer and replacing fear with hope as participants from across the country walk together to find a cure.
Stop the Silence® Walk will benefit Sisters Network Breast Cancer Assistance Program (B-CAP). B-CAP provides assistance to women facing financial challenges after diagnosis. This program has been in existence since late 2006 and has provided financial assistance for mammograms, co-pay, office visits, prescriptions, medical related lodging and transportation. Funds raised from the Stop the Silence® Walk will continue to assist women throughout the United States.

In 1999, Sisters broke new ground by hosting the nation’s only Annual National African American Breast Cancer Conference which provides a broader scope of knowledge and addresses the breast cancer survivorship crisis affecting the African American woman.
