Launched in April 2010, Sisters Network Inc. Stop the Silence National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is the only national Black breast cancer walk in the United States. The event is held in Houston, Texas the national headquarters for Sisters Network Inc. Each year, nearly 4,000 participants attend the walk in honor, memory or in support of breast cancer survivors in their lives. The historic walk is hosted each April during Minority Health Awareness month. The goal is to also focus the spotlight on the black breast cancer crisis and increase awareness about the deadly impact the disease has in the black community. A portion of the funds raised benefit the Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program which provides financial assistance to any breast cancer survivors in active treatment and free 3D mammograms to uninsured women nationwide.
