02.18.2025 Chapter News Press Releases

Sisters Network® Inc., (SNI), the only national African American breast cancer survivorship organization and the leader in the national Black breast cancer movement today proudly announces the launch of its new affiliate chapter to serve the Northwest Indiana community.

The new affiliate chapter, SNI Northwest Indiana Affiliate Chapter, marks a significant step forward in supporting the organization’s continued expansion of its national footprint to address the critical need to educate Black women about breast health, support survivors and empower Black women to make their breast health a top priority.

Black women continue to die at an alarming rate of more than 40% as compared to white women.

SNI Northwest Indiana Affiliate Chapter executive committee leadership includes LaToya DuBose-Lowe, President, ChaKara Gunn, Vice President, Latonia Shields-Marsh, Secretary, Denise Huntley-Neal, Treasurer, LaTanya Rounds, Financial Secretary, and S. Chanel Woods, Membership Director.  The chapter will provide educational programs, support meetings, access to resources, advocacy, and outreach efforts to increase breast health awareness and support survivors battling breast cancer.

While every SNI affiliate chapter nationwide is survivor-run, under a special pilot program, SNI Northwest Indiana Affiliate Chapter will be the first led by a non-survivor; however, the remaining executive leadership team members are survivors. LaToya’s personal connection to breast cancer runs deep, she works professionally in the breast cancer space, and has worked tirelessly in her community to support the cause having witnessed the devastating impact of breast cancer in her own family.

“I am thrilled to welcome SNI Northwest Indiana Affiliate Chapter to the Sisters Network ®Inc., family. This will be a unique chapter model for our organization.  I was moved to try it because LaToya’s passion and dedication to support Black women diagnosed with breast cancer in Northwest Indiana is undeniable. Under her leadership, I have no doubt the chapter will thrive, and make a positive impact on the lives of black women in the Northwest Indiana area,” stated Karen E. Jackson, Founder/CEO, Sisters Network® Inc.

“The breast cancer movement is very near and dear to my heart,” said LaToya DuBose-Lowe, President, SNI Northwest Affiliate Chapter. “My great-grandmother, grandmother and my mother were all survivors, and I know how important it is to have a support system when you are going through the fight. I want the SNI Northwest Indiana Affiliate Chapter to be a support system for Northwest Indiana’s Black community and to provide the education and resources that are so desperately needed to support survivorship.”
