For nearly three decades, Sisters Network® Inc. has been committed to increasing local and national attention to the devastating impact that breast cancer has in the Black community. Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of invasive breast cancer that disproportionately affects Black women and contributes to racial disparities in breast cancer mortality.
The goal of the 5-City Pink Power Tour is to educate Black women about the TNBC crisis impacting black women, empower TNBC patients through their journey, and discuss the importance of clinical trial participation and knowing your family history, and how to be your own self-advocate. The Pink Power tour cities were selected due to the high number of black women diagnosed in those states.
“Bringing the Pink Power Tour to Orlando is important for two reasons. Our SNI Orlando Affiliate chapter is a strong chapter and of our oldest. They have been very dedicated to their community and successful providing support, educating, and empowering Black women about breast cancer health and awareness,” stated Karen E. Jackson, Founder/CEO, Sisters Network® Inc. and 30-year, 4-time breast cancer survivor. “Additionally, the state of Florida amplified TNBC awareness. Last March, Senator Berman sponsored a resolution to recognize “Triple Negative Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and designated March 3, as ‘Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Awareness Day’ in Florida.”
“We are so excited to have the Pink Power Tour come to Orlando,” stated President Patricia Coefield of Sisters Network Orlando Affiliate chapter. “This is the second time Sisters Network® Inc. has brought their tours to the Central Florida community. The Pink Power Tour coming to Orlando helps our mission to support, educate, encourage, and bring attention to the devastating impact breast cancer has in the Black community. Being hostess to the Pink Power Tour, will help us promote Breast Health Matters and improve the quality of life as we take daily strides through this breast cancer journey.”
