New Affiliate Chapter in Charleston, South Carolina

Houston, TX, January 5, 2023 Sisters Network® Inc. (SNI), the largest and only national Black breast cancer survivor-run organization is pleased to welcome Sisters Network® Inc. Charleston, SC Affiliate chapter. The new affiliate chapter located in Charleston, South Carolina will empower and educate the community about breast health and provide much-needed support and sisterhood to black women who are survivors and battling breast cancer in the Charleston’s Low Country area.

For nearly three decades, Sisters Network® Inc. has continued to expand its national footprint in major cities across the United States. As the national leader in the Black breast cancer movement, SNI provides a sisterhood, support, and resources to black women in over 30 cities through its extensive national network of survivor-run affiliate chapters.

“Sisters Network® Inc. is very excited and proud to launch our new affiliate chapter in the state of South Carolina.  We are grateful to have an eager and dynamic group of Black women who are survivors in Charleston that recognize the importance of having a SNI affiliate chapter in their community,” stated Karen E. Jackson, Founder/CEO, Sisters Network® Inc.

“As a national organization, Sisters Network® Inc. voice is loud and strong. I know our new SNI Charleston, SC affiliate chapter is up for the challenge to provide the sisterhood, support and education to black women in Charleston and the surrounding communities about the black breast cancer crisis our women are facing. Our Sisters’ can survive with breast health awareness and early detection,” added Jackson.

Black women are 42% more likely to die of breast cancer. Black women under 35 are 2 times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer as compared to White women and die at three times the rate according to the American Cancer Society.

“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to bring an affiliate chapter of Sisters Networ® Inc. to the Charleston, South Carolina community,” stated Nina Mitchell, President, Sisters Network® Inc. Charleston, SC Affiliate chapter. “Breast cancer in Black women needs to be addressed in Charleston. We have plans to educate, support, and fight for our community of Black breast cancer survivors and thrivers, and those who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer.”

SNI Charleston, SC Affiliate chapter executive leadership team includes Nina Mitchell, President, Tiffany “Lovely” Browne, Vice President, Sonya Jenkins Williams, Secretary, Renee Rumph, Treasurer, Malika Jamerson, Director of Membership, and Ethel Nelson, Chaplain.
