Dorothy has dedicated her life to spreading the word about the importance of early detection. Her advocacy is seen all around her community as she serves on several boards, including but not limited to St. Peters Hospital Cancer Committee, New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services Breast Cancer Work Group and The Wellness Community of Central New Jersey. She is also a regular guest speaker at senior citizen events, health fairs, corporate events, schools and does faith-based outreach in local churches. |
In 2007, Edie and her members, made105 hand sewn security blankets to give to breast cancer survivors going through chemo. The greater percentage of these blankets was donated to Cancer Services. These blankets not only give love to the African American Sisters but to all women going through treatment. They held numerous health fairs and reached out to students on university campuses across Louisiana and to Hurricane Katrina victims on the anniversary of the storm.
